Suggestions & FeedBack?

1. It would be nice to have this site recognized officially (linked directly from a menu item on http://mysettopbox.tv/

-- notivo

Done

-- Xsecrets

2. Could you link to the Wiki installation instructions from the KnoppMyth installation page as well (assuming they're correct, of course)?

-- ceenvee703

This is not my call would be up to cesman

-- Xsecrets

3. MythTV needs a reference platform. What if we figured out what is common among everyone's configuration and created a reference platform for KnoppMyth. There are issues with VIA that you don't find out about until you have a semi-working system.

-- Nate

This is still under discussion. There are lots of hardware recommendations on the forums and the wiki at this point. There is an official effort between MythiC.TV and the KnoppMyth team, called KRP, or Knoppmyth Reference Platform. The first KRP system is Dragon.

-- Xsecrets

4. Many Wikis include a "RecentChanges" Page on the left hand nav which lets regular visitors see what's new. You have this on the right under UpdatedPages, but it would be nice to also have it on the left, with the name RecentChanges.

-- Peter

Updated wiki code and now RecentChanges exists and is functional.

-- Xsecrets

5. Would it be possible to have the section for C3 EPIA motherboard updated. It points to links for edworthy which no longer seem to exist. I would definately like to be able to get the kernel updates that he has posted.

-- Bob

6. Some Wikis have pages for individuals, describing their interests, backgrounds, and other information pertinent to the Wiki. I'd love to know more about Xsecrets, for instance! Should we put up pages about ourselves and our particular KnoppMyth systems, challenges we have overcome and problems we still face?

-- Joe Barnhart, a.k.a. liv2cod

Well this wiki does not have usernames. Actually it does have support for them, but I have left it off intentionally to lower the barrier for interested people to add content. That does not preclude anyone from starting such a section and writing about themselves or their systems. But I'm afraid a page about me would just be good for putting people to sleep. :)

-- Xsecrets

NEW SUGGESTION: Change the RSS Feed information, it currently reads ErfurtWiki (title) ErfurtWiki - a open hypertext site (byline)

Also add a <link> tag in the header so the Firefox livebookmarks pick it up. This RSS feed should also be put into KnoppMyth's Default Feed links in KnoppMyth's config.

-- notivo

I'll look into this. I haven't played with the rss stuff much. The question would be which one to put into anything as every page has it's own feed. I don't really see it as being useful, I just enabled it cause it was there and seemed interesting.

-- Xsecrets

The RSS feeds should be fixed up now. Let me know if you find any more problems.

Samba config --> Default is Mythtv 4.1

this is the part that I don't understand. MythTV latest version is 0.16, and samba latest version is 3.x, so I have no idea what 4.1 you are talking about. As for the rest see below.

--Xsecrets

-- Please add Midnight Commander for those of us slow at typing.

Not really sure what it is that you are talking about, but requests for programs to be included in the next version of Knoppmyth should happen on the forums when asked for. Requests for R5 have already closed, but a thread for the next version will be created once R5 is released.

-- Could you update the CVS install instructions in include the following:

The part in settings.pro to include lirc native support and XvMC support. I'm pretty sure many of us use lirc native support in mythtv, and i had to recompile mythtv source twice because of this. Also, since Knoppmyth asks this during installation, it would make sense to show us how to configure this on our own. I don't mind doing this, just not sure if i'm allowed. Also, for the new version of myth, you need qt3.2 i believe, those instructions should be somewhere. Again i can do. One other thing with CVS, i mythbackup before installing CVS, so the database is backedup and such, the reason i think i needed this was when i ran mythbackend, said nothing was setup, like video cards, video source, channel edit, etc. I had to mythrestore, and it still wouldn't run. Video cards still not setup, but everything else was setup. I had to go into cvs/setup. Run setup and add my video cards. Also for some reason mythtv .17 wouldn't recognized my second pvr until i recompiled ivtv.

Second, How-To for 2 pvr's. Again i don't mind writing this. Especially since the new 250's are not compatible with the ivtv driver that ships with KnoppMyth, and the 0.2.0 ivtv driver has a different ivtv config file.

Thirdly, the xine instructions, for me xine wouldn't run in mythtv user mode but in superuser only. Even tho mythtv user was already added to the dvd and cdrom group. Mplayer worked fine. Perhaps a line, if xine won't run in mythtv, try chmod u+rx /dev/dvd, which worked for me.

Sorry for being so long, but i love the wiki, it's what i use for most everything i need to know how to do, since it can take a while to search and find your answer.

-- DarDack?

You can edit any of the pages, but please mark your changes with your name.

-- Xsecrets

Can someone please add some info on getting knoppmyth to work with the pvr150? I know ivtv people are working on it, but I think it's just a patch file at this point. When it makes it into knoppmyth release I (and I'm sure other people) would like to know. Also maybe some info on configuring the new 45 button remote that comes with it if possible... not sure on the status of that with lirc. Figuring out that stuff is a little beyond me, that's why I love this site!

-- Poiutix

The new remote also comes with the newer pvr250's and there is information about it on the forums, if noone else does I might find some time to copy that over here to the wiki.

As for information on getting the pvr150 to work from everything I've heard so far it just simply does not at this point. Until there are drivers that work reliably with it I think it would be a complete waste of time writing anything up.

-- http://www.plextor.com/english/news/press/LinuxPVR_pr.htm Has this been tested with MythTV yet? or KnoppMyth? Can it be used? "Free Linux Software Developers Kit (SDK) for ConvertX video capture devices. For the first time, the Open Source Software (OSS) community can enjoy the advanced features of Plextor ConvertX PVRs, including real-time hardware-based MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and Motion JPEG video encoding in a low-cost USB 2.0 video peripheral. Licensed under the GNU General Public License, the Linux SDK supports the popular Video for Linux 2 (V4L2) and Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA) specifications. It also supports deprecated Open Sound System (OSS) applications via the OSS compatibility layer provided by ALSA. The new driver, which requires the Linux 2.6 kernel, includes sample code that can be reused in open source or proprietary applications to help developers get started quickly".

-- Interesting stuff

Yes that is indeed interesting and it will be cool to have the option of using external usb tuners, but lets get real this anouncement was only made a couple of days ago. Give the development community a minute to get going. You know almost no devs will have this hardware for development and testing, as it was not supported until a couple of days ago, but give it a couple of weeks, and I bet you'll see some news on the mythtv development lists. Knoppmyth will most likely take longer.

-- Xsecrets

--http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4609 You may wish to include the information in this post about getting the PVR-350 silver remote (A415-APG) to work with KnoppMyth R5A16. I followed your instructions and the ones on many other posts, but this was the only one that worked for me. It is already well documented, too.

-- kmkittre

Thank you for volunteering! When can we expect to see your contribution added to that page? ;-)

-- I would like to reevaluate the required login for editing (or lack thereof). I like the ability to track who/what is contributed, and I like the required login as a means to do this (automated entry tracking). I do realize the advantage of leaving things more open, for anyone to edit without a login. I really want people to contribute to the Knoppmyth effort as a community team.

Earlier on this page, it is mentioned that people should tag their edits with their id (e.g., Xsecrets, et.al.). A number of pages contain user names labeling the sections that they have edited. However, I think this method is inefficient, and results in poor readability. I would like this Wiki to read like a good How-To manual. With all the names/comments spread throughout, it often reads more like a series of disjointed comments.

Just my 2 cents, and I'll contribute either way of course. However, I prefer not to sacrifice readability and omit the provision of my id directly into the page content.

--sbad

I agree with the above comment, even if it were only for readability. Perhaps people not logged in could be auto added as anonymous and for the sake of accidents a prompt to come up asking them if they realise they are not logged in or something.

The Conceptual Overview

What I'd like to add is something that is so often missing from how-to's, the conceptual overview or rather the technical conceptual overview. It is so much easier to know what path you may need to tread before you tread it. I think this could in the interim be a fore runner for the above mentioned reference machine, as this info would need to be known first to be able to put up a reference spec. What I mean is a page that says things like - "You will need x, x and x" but also says, "To do this you will need to have an ivtv supported video out card for X" and a link that says read up on it "here". It's kind of hard for me to put it into words, but a bit like a table of contents with links in it but kept solely to a conceptual point of view. Reason being is to attempt to save people from having to do easter egg hunts to find things they didn't even realise they had to find. Make sense?

Update - I've now started adding this, I'm really just finding my way, would love some help to word/plan out exactly what I mean if you understand the idea I'm getting at.

FYI if we had logins, you would know how to contact me so I could start if you agreed! Perhaps this is already somewhere, but after coming to the site on and off I only just found the table of contents (or rather the full list of how to's etc) after hunting around. Perhaps that could be in a more relevant place, like at the top somewhere on the main page?

-- Q

-- I would like to create a bounty for Knoppmyth/Mythtv. Where do I go to post this?

-- ghee2

for instance. A Blaster page with a list of blasters like this http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/187858?search_string=blaster;#187858 with a "working in version xxx", verified by so and so, and any extra settings scripts posted that were needed to get it working. The reason is to promote the use of a variety of hardware while maintaining user confidence that they will have a pain free setup before they buy.

-- I just made a minor correction to a page (a path was missing a subdirectory) and was wishing that there was something like a submital/checkin comment in a revision control system. While it's possible to manually add a change log (say at the end of a page) getting people to do it consistently when they may not even be aware of the convention is next to impossible... Mechanical assistance would at least make it easier... Just a thought...

--Is there any way that instructions for specific modifications can be connected to the relevant version of Knoppmyth? There are a number of great howtos which don't work with specific versions of Knoppmyth.

Thanks Lonlerny

-- Requesting the addition of another 'How-To' page. HowTo: transfer files to and from your Knoppmyth box. Personally I found only hints to try using SFTP on this wiki, which while it WORKS, it was exceptionally slow for me. After getting around to looking on the forums, I found the suggestion of WinSCP, which made my file transfers 10 times faster. This is significant when you are moving 800mb files from a windows machine to your DVR! Another note on this resume help page may be important to some people, recently I saw testing on SmallNetBuilder which indicates the Linksys WRT series of routers is exceptionally bad with packet loss. As this is one of the most popular home router series in the USA, it might be good for users to know this could be a point of trouble. Thanks, Dave Winn

Thank you I always wanted to write in my site something like that. Can I take part of your post <a title="NegeriAds?.com Solusi Berpromosi" href="http://pendhowo.com/negeriads-com-solusi-berpromosi/">NegeriAds?.com Solusi Berpromosi</a> to my blog.I am definitely bookmarking this page <a title="Indonesia Furniture Handicraft Wholesale Marketplace" href="http://pendhowo.com/indonesia-furniture-handicraft-wholesale-marketplace/">Indonesia Furniture Handicraft Wholesale Marketplace</a> and sharing it with my friends.
