Install Firefox
1. Open a terminal (Alt-X) (you can exit mythfrontend first, but dont have to)
2. Change to the /myth dir by typing cd /myth
3. Change to root by typing su and entering password.
4. Use wget to download the tarball, (Put all of this on one line)

wget http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/1.5.0.7/linux-i686/en-US/firefox-1.5.0.7.tar.gz

5. Untar the file. This creates a new folder called firefox that has the executable.

     tar zxvf firefox-1.5.0.7.tar.gz

6. Type exit to get out of root, then type exit again to close the terminal.
7. In mythfrontend, Util/Settings, Setup, Info Center, Web Settings, change browser to /myth/firefox/firefox and Finish.
8. Go back to Mythbrowser, select a URL and it should work.
Note1: This will create a hidden directory in /home/mythtv called .mozilla. This directory will contain another one called firefox. In that firefox dir will be your profile, bookmarks, etc.
Note2: To run it from a terminal just cd /myth/firefox directory and type ./firefox

Note4: To set up a keyboard shortcut to pop up a firefox window while in mythfrontend, edit /etc/X11/fluxbox/keys. See http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=85317

Install Java Plugin
Java is already installed for knoppmyth. After you start firefox the first time open a terminal (Alt-X). cd /home/mythtv/.mozilla and mkdir plugins. Change to this new dir by typing cd plugins. Now create a symlink to the real java plugin file:

ln -s /usr/lib/j2re1.5-sun/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so libjavaplugin_oji.so

Install Flash Plugin
1. Open a terminal (Alt-X)
2. Get the flash plugin tarball.

wget http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz

3. Untar the flash tarball by typing tar zxvf install_flash_player_9_linux.tar.gz
4. cd to that new directory. cd install_flash_player_9_linux.
5. copy the .xpt and .so files to /home/mythtv/.mozilla/plugins dir.

    cp flashplayer.xpt /home/mythtv/.mozilla/plugins
    cp libflashplayer.so /home/mythtv/.mozilla/plugins

Restart firefox, check that they are registered by putting about:plugins in the URL address.

KnoppMyth R5E50 - F1

With KnoppMyth R5E50 all I had to do to install Firefox was

apt-get install firefox

instead of steps 2-5 above in the Install Firefox section. In Step 7 set the browser to /usr/bin/firefox.

This gave me Firefox (Iceweasel) 2.0.0.2.
